Humber Valley/Bay of Islands

The Humber Valley is a study in contrasts. Fishers and loggers. Resettlement and prosperity. Travelers driving into Corner Brook via Route 1 are dazzled by the panoramic view – the majestic Blow-Me-Down Mountains, snow-capped until mid-July; and the sparkling fijord-like Bay of Islands.

In this region, salmon jump jagged rocks to reach their spawning grounds; waterfalls plunge over mountains, smashing onto the rocks below. This is a destination for the outdoor enthusiasts. The best way to see this region is to walk, hike or bike. Maybe a cave tour might be on your list of things to do? There are many parks equipped with municipal playgrounds and walking trails.

In the ciy of Corner Brook, the view is spectacular. A monument of the legendary explorer Captain James Cook. located on the top of Crow Hill, features Cook’s original charts. Spring along the Corner Brook Stream Walking Trail its great for all ages.

There are 4 trails you will not want to miss starting with Route 450 Captain Cook’s Trail  Humber Arm South, York/Lark Harbour and on Route 440 Admiral Palliser’s Trail. Alot of history and beauty surround these trails. Be sure to take a boat tour you may just spot a whale.

The Old Man in the Mountain watches every move as he guards the buried treasure on Shellbird Island. Along Route 1 be sure to spot a face in the rock formation. We invite you to drive through the Humber Valley, it’s one of the most scenic drives in the province. With walking trails, Steady Brook Falls, Marble Mountain Resort, Nature Parks, sandy beaches, golf, all complete with a Newfoundland Insectarium and Butterfly Pavillion. It’s no wonder we know how to keep the Spring in your Step!
